1. What this tool does

Summarize map view requirements and generate storm / compare / card review memos.

2. Quick steps (5)

  1. Select a mode (storm / compare / card).
  2. Enter the area (BBox or lat/lon) and the date range.
  3. Add layers, notes, and review context.
  4. Click “Generate preview” to build the memo.
  5. Copy or download the text, PNGs, or CSVs.

3. Inputs

  • BBox: specify the region as “lon, lat, lon, lat” (storm / compare).
  • Latitude / longitude: point selection (card).
  • Start / end date: the period to review (compare has A/B ranges).
  • Preset: choose low / mid / detail.
  • Frames (storm): required in storm mode.
  • Target area: the region or location to review.
  • Layers to verify: roads, terrain, shelters, and more.
  • Notes: additional instructions for reviewers.

4. Reading the preview

  • storm: a GSMaP real metadata status panel appears, followed by a separate synthetic frame slider and cumulative view.
  • compare: a GSMaP metadata-only reachability panel for Period A and Period B appears separately from A/B/diff synthetic preview cards and CSV outputs.
  • card: a GSMaP metadata reachability panel appears for a small bbox around the selected point, separately from the synthetic preview point card, mini chart, and summary.

The storm / compare / card metadata status can report real GSMaP metadata reachability, but visible maps, point cards, mini charts, and summaries are synthetic preview. Only metadata reachability is checked as real data. Raster precipitation values are not sampled yet.

4a. Data status

  • Storm mode calls /api/earth-map-suite/precipitation once and shows real GSMaP metadata reachability.
  • Compare mode calls the same endpoint separately for Period A and Period B and shows metadata-only reachability only.
  • Card mode builds a small bbox around the selected latitude/longitude, calls the same endpoint, and shows metadata-only reachability only.
  • The panel displays transparency fields such as dataset, license, source, matched_dates, item_count, asset_count, and sampling_status.
  • Endpoint limits are low up to 14 days and mid up to 7 days.
  • Raster precipitation values are not sampled yet; summary mean/max/min are not shown as real values.
  • The storm map preview, CSV frame values, compare A/B/Diff, and Card point card/mini chart/summary remain synthetic preview and are not observed precipitation.

5. Examples

storm example

BBox: 139.5,35.4,140.0,35.9
Range: 2025-08-01 → 2025-08-03
Preset: low
Frames: 24
Target area: Tokyo area
Layers: Terrain / main roads / shelters
Note: Synthetic preview / not observed precipitation

compare example

BBox: 139.5,35.4,140.0,35.9
Period A: 2025-08-01 → 2025-08-03
Period B: 2025-08-04 → 2025-08-06
Preset: low
Note: A/B/Diff are synthetic preview; only metadata reachability is real-data checked

card example

Lat/Lon: 35.68, 139.76
Range: 2025-08-01 → 2025-08-03
Preset: low
Metadata bbox approx: 139.51,35.43,140.01,35.93
Note: point card, mini chart, and summary remain synthetic preview; only metadata reachability is real-data checked

6. Free-ops limits

Item Limit Notes
BBox Up to 5° × 5° Use low for wider areas
Date span UI preview up to 31 days; metadata endpoint low 14 days / mid 7 days Compare checks the metadata endpoint separately for A/B
Preset low / mid / detail Other values error out
Storm frames Up to 48 Above 48 will be thinned

If a limit is exceeded, you will see error_code: limit_exceeded.

7. Troubleshooting

Q. The preview is blank.
A. Make sure required fields (mode, dates, BBox/lat-lon) are filled.
Q. Compare cards do not show.
A. Switch to compare mode and fill both A/B date ranges.
Q. I see an error code.
A. Check the limits table for the free-ops caps.
